About the Project

Budget season is here, and your voice is needed! Come to the People’s Budget Office at LOVE Park to learn about The City of Philadelphia’s proposed budget and add your line item. Your funding priorities will shape the People’s Budget and be shared with Philadelphia’s City Council and the City’s Budget Office.

The People’s Budget Office is a public art installation at LOVE Park where residents can co-create this year’s People’s Budget. Visitors can engage in hands-on activities, watch budget proceedings, and attend engaging events that cover urgent issues, including public schools, criminal justice, taxes, art, environmental justice, parks and recreation, libraries, and more.

During the duration of the installation, resident artists Erik Ruin, Arshayla Robinson, Maria Möller, josh graupera will host the budget office and contribute creative interpretations of the budget. Events will be open to the public throughout the duration of the installation. The installation is family-friendly and will have activities for children to adults to learn about the importance of the city’s budget. City Council’s budget hearings will be screened on-site on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

The People’s Budget Office is by artist Phoebe Bachman with Mural Arts Philadelphia. Contributing artists include Blanche Brown, Sam Rise, Erik Ruin, Arshayla Robinson, Maria Möller, josh graupera, Pamela Chuang, Root Catalyst, and Oscar Gresh.

The People’s Budget Resource Center provides an up-to-date listing of events, hearings, and information associated with the Philadelphia’s City Budget process.

Over the last few years, grassroots organizations across the country have been organizing People’s Budgets that demand the city provides resources we all deserve. In Philadelphia, some organizations who are advocating for a just budget include: Alliance for a Just Philadelphia, Tax the Rich PHL, Reclaim Philadelphia.

Budget in Brief summarizes the annual budget.
